Marizanne Kapp and Tazmin British produced a Batting Masterclass to provide the Proteas women with power to a commander eight-wicket victory in the Opening One-Day International (ODI) against Pakistan in Lahore on Tuesday.
In a position of 216 runs, Kapp led the load with a career-best 121* from 128 deliveries (13 four, 2 sixes), while British supplied a composed 101* from 121 balls (9 four). Their record third-wicket partnership for South Africa ensured that the visitors comfortably chased the 255/4 of Pakistan, with 121* (150 balls; 12 fours) of Sidra Amin.
Earlier, after winning the throw and choosing Bat, Pakistan experienced an early setback when Opener Shawaal Zulfiqar (0) ran back to a sharp catch with one hand by Wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta for Ayabonga Khaka (2/36). Amin and Muneeba Ali (76 out of 94 balls; 11 celebrations) then rebuilt the innings, showing a test period to share a 147-run, second-wicket partnership. Ali hit her fifth ODI half century before Khaka struck again and her LBW captured to leave the hosts 150/2 in the 31st.
Amin continued to find support from Aliya Riaz (33) in a 68-run position, but the visitors fought back in the field. Riaz got rid of Nondumiso Shangase and Jafta quickly, before Tumi Sekhukhune (1/37) removed Fatima Sana (3). Although Wickets fell around her, Amin raised her fifth career -Eudi -century to guide Pakistan to 255/4 at the end of their innings.
South Africa’s answer began nervously, with Captain Laura Wolvardt (4) in the second over from Sadia Iqbal (1/41). Suné Luus (30) watched against British and added 43 for the second wicket, before being trapped LBW by Rameen Shamim (1/29).
The competition then became a showcase of the Batting of South Africa. British and Kapp in combination with authority, the strike is cleverly stating while they punish individual deliveries. Both were mentioned memorable centuries, with Kapp’s fourth in Odi Cricket and the fifth of British, in a match -winning partnership.
The continuous position of the pair 216 Run is the highest in South Africa for the third wicket in the ODIs of women and the visitors handed over to the victory with 10 balls.
The second ODI will take place on Friday, September 19 at the Gaddafi Stadium from 3:30 pm Local Time (12h30 Sast).
