Kansas Men’s Basketball Coach Bill Self was released from the hospital on Saturday after a procedure to insert two stents, the school announced. On Thursday himself had checked in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital after he had experienced ‘with regard to symptoms’ and felt unwell.
“I want to thank all the great doctors and nurses at LMH Health for the excellent care that I received during my stay,” Self said in a statement. “I feel strong and I am excited to be at home. Our team has had a productive summer and I am looking forward to recharging and preparing for the coming season.”
This marks the second heart-related procedure for the 62-year-old coach in just over two years. In March 2023, Self underwent a heart catheterization and had placed two stents to treat blocked arteries, missing the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. Kansas, a number 1 seed that year, was eliminated in the second round by No. 8 Arkansas.
At the time, it had reported the tightness of the chest and the balance, which immediately had medical attention.
It is usually a steady presence on Kansas’s side activity since taking over in 2003, and only missed a handful of games.
Despite the setbacks of health, Self remains one of the most accomplished coaches in sport. He drew a $ 53 million deal in 2023, making him the best -paid coach in college basketball.
In 2017 he was admitted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and will take his 33rd season as head coach. A 831-261 career record itself has four last four performances and two national championships on his resume.
The Jayhawks open the season 3 November against Wisconsin-Green Bay.
