Richie James, a former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver who won the Super Bowl in addition to Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes in 2024, is retired.
James has been a free agent since that victory in Las Vegas and placed on X on Friday that he, due to a knee injury, never returns to football.
The 29-year-old wrote: ‘It took time, but I realized that I am retired from the NFL. 7th round of Mtsu. I feel that I was just a ball player to last so long.
‘Unfortunately my knee was never healed well. I played pain since 22 ‘. Oh well. I gave everything I got the football game. ‘
As he said in his statement, James was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the NFL design of 2018 after playing the university for Middle Tennessee.
He was abandoned in 2021 due to knee surgery after 40 games and 38 receptions for 689 yards and three touchdowns.

In 2022 he signed with the New York Giants and registered 57 receptions for 569 Yards, so that the Giants helped the play -offs for the first time since 2016 – they have not made the post -season since.
The following year he was signed with the Chiefs by Andy Reid and played six Snaps when Kansas City defeated his former team, the 49 people, to record Super Bowl Glory.
The Chiefs defeated the 49ers 25-22 in the extension at Allegiant Stadium, their second straight super bowl title.
That day would be the last time that James put foot on the field, and that super bowl victory set the chiefs to reach almost a triplicate.
James seemed to tease his announcement in the week and post on X: ‘There will be a big shift. I know you feel it too. ‘
He added individual messages: when closing … that’s it. I accept it. Gave it all I received. ‘
In the meantime, the Chiefs saw that their three-level heap in February when they were blown away 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.
The Chiefs will start the 2025 campaign in Brazil on 5 September against the Los Angeles Chargers.
They follow that in week 2 with a rematch against the Eagles in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City before they were confronted in Metlife in week 3 against another by James’ old teams, the Giants.
