We’ve been hearing rumors for a while now that Kamaru Usman could win a UFC welterweight title against Islam Makhachev. It’s been talked about for quite some time, with Kamaru sparking the conversation after beating Joaquin Buckley earlier this year to snap his three-fight losing streak.

Islam Makhachev, meanwhile, has also shown interest in the fight, especially ahead of his welterweight title win against Jack Della Maddalena. If Makhachev vs. Usman does indeed happen, Ali Adbelaziz will play a major role as he represents both men.
In a recent interview, Abdelaziz gave his opinion on the possible realization of Makhachev and Usman.

“Kamaru Usman has done a lot of things for this company,” Abdelaziz said. “I’ll campaign for him to get a title fight, but I’m not going to make the decision. Dana White, Hunter (Campbell), all these guys are going to make the decision. I’ve got my argument. As for Islam Makhachev’s side, what the hell has Ian Garry done the last few years? I like the kid.”
“I think he’s a great fighter. In Islam Makhachev’s last 10 fights, he finished eight. He’s been one of the busiest champions since 2021. Ian Garry has decided everyone. If you look at excitement and personality, I think people are more interested in (Carlos) Prates. But Kamaru Usman is a legend.”
“When you do these things for the company, when you go ahead and fight a guy that no one knows – Buckley, no one knows, and make him look like a cab driver. He did that, and I like Buckley, but he made him look like he didn’t belong there. He deserved this. People don’t know this, but last November he was offered Shavkat. Kamaru accepted the fight. I don’t know what was going on with Shavkat. I think he was hurt or something like that. Hunter offered me this fight.
“Kamaru Usman is one of the biggest names in the division. When you’re Islam Makhachev, you want to have a legacy in your name.”
