It will certainly be an interesting season from 2025-26 for the Phoenix Suns-DeVin Booker will still be at the forefront, but there is a lot of uncertainty outside that fact. When it comes to rotation of the Suns’ center, it seems that things stand in line for the Rookie Kaman Maluach to prove his value early.
The situation of Phoenix in the central position must be the most interesting of every positional group. They are currently roasting Mark Williams, Nick Richards, Oso ighodaro and Maluach. Richards is the most veteran of the couple, but there seems to be no clear indication of a hierarchy among these four boys, at least for the time being.
You would probably say that Mark Williams is the most physically gifted of the couple. From last season he was the only player in the NBA with a longer wingspan than Victor Wembanyama. His experience as a starter for two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets may seem to give him a leg in the rotation, but nothing has been put in stone.
There are certainly reasons to think that within a few minutes Maluach could get a lead over all three boys. The physical tools of Williams give him an undisputed advantage, but there were repeated questions about his motorcycle after several injuries during his time in Charlotte.
Kaman Maluach has the chance to become the starting center of the Suns
Richards has built a reputation as a solid backup center, but it is still not certain whether he is consistent enough to be a viable long-term starter in this competition. As far as Iighodaro is concerned, he is just as young as an inexperienced as Maluach. Even if he has a year of experience more than the Rookie, the two are in fact on the same playing field at the same level.
Kaman showed Suns -fans many exciting flashes during his collegial season at Duke University and on the NBA Summer League. Most boys who are 7-foot-2 do not walk on the floor or move almost as well as Maluach.
He already has a very solid sense of the game on a professional level. Maluach blocks and changes extremely well due to an established combination of size and basketball IQ. And although his Springschot might be a work in progress, there are already some good signs.
There is definitely a path for Khaman Maluach to become a threat in the interior in Phoenix. He will have to beat his competition to get the minutes he needs, but he is more than able to do this. The chance is for the young great man, and he can very well shift the strategy of the coaching staff of the Suns in the year one with his skills.
