Amangani is an apt name – meaning peaceful home – given to an Asian-inspired, architect-designed home at 5 Regnan Rd, Kallista, which is being offered for the first time amid 1.24 hectares of landscaped gardens overlooking the Warburton Ranges.

When owners Mark and Sandi Peel bought the block in 1999, they were captivated by its hilltop location, northerly aspect and easy access on almost level ground.

“The location of the property, surrounded by mature European trees to the front and native bushland to the rear, felt like an ancient forest,” says Sandi.

“The proximity to the Dandenong Ranges National Park, along with the panoramic views over the Warburton Ranges and Kallista village, felt like the perfect balance between nature and convenience.”

An architecturally designed home is being offered for the first time.

The property features 4 acres of landscaped gardens with views of the Warburton Ranges.

The sellers also wanted the house to feel light, airy and cozy in winter.

The setting was reflected in the commission they gave to their architect, John E. Smith.

“Our brief to John was to create an open-plan, Asian-inspired home with strong ecological features and a passive solar design,” says Sandi.

“We wanted a house that felt calm, connected to nature and in harmony with the landscape.

“The end result beautifully reflects our original vision: light-filled, sustainable, designed for relaxed living.

“After 22 years here, we wouldn’t change much – a real testament to John’s design skills.”

Bringing the design to life was KAS Constructions, who, the suppliers say, embraced the challenges of the bespoke project.

“Sustainability and efficiency were important priorities for us,” says Sandi.

“The house features large north-facing windows, wide eaves, high-quality glass and insulation, sliding doors and windows for cross-flow ventilation, ceiling fans and our own water supply – all helping to create a comfortable, energy-efficient environment.”

The home is for sale with a price guide of $2 million – $2.2 million.

Most visitors describe the property as peaceful and resort-like.

The sellers also wanted the house to feel light, airy and cozy in winter, achieved with cathedral ceilings, mottled gum floors, hydronic heating and a double-sided gas fireplace.

“There’s plenty of room for entertaining, a big part of how we’ve enjoyed living here,” says Sandi.

Sellers’ favorites include dramatic architectural features including high ceilings, spectacular views of the Warburton Ranges and valley, a sandstone fireplace and exposed trusses.

The outdoor amenities, including a pond with a water feature, Asian-inspired gardens with birch and Japanese maples, vegetable gardens, a large covered terrace, a pizza oven and outdoor barbecue, are also a highlight.

“The views from the deck are breathtaking and we have enjoyed many relaxing gatherings with friends and family in the outdoor entertaining areas,” says Sandi.

Scott Allison of Fletchers Yarra Ranges has put the house up for sale with a price guide of $2 million to $2.2 million. Offers close on November 11 at 3pm.
