Ampers and one has a unique perspective, a perspective that helps them to stand out and helps them to relate to a global audience. Yes, they are a K-pop band that perform in Korean, but they are also a global bond with international origin.
“I would like to think we are a Korean band in the K-pop genre, but we definitely have an international audience,” said group leader Kamden. “So in that sense we are both Korean and international, and yes, being international is a very great strength for us because we are able to communicate with many different fans and are also able to relate fans of different places.”
Rapper Kamden Winston after lived in the US for ten years. The Chinese Canadian singer Brian Ho was born in Vancouver. Vocalists Choi Ji-Ho and Kim Seung-Mo come from Seoul, while Yoon Si-Yun comes from Incheon. Singer Kyrell Valentine Choi was born in Seattle and rapper Mackiah Mercer comes from New South Wales in Australia.
“Growing up in different parts of the world means that you grow up with different experiences,” said Kamden. “Just having those different experiences can also relate to our fans and their experiences.”
In the two years since the band, their first album debuted Ampersand One, They have released a few albums and are already on their second American tour. Their most recent release, the six-track Loud and proud Album sold more than 100,000 copies in the first week, with the music video for the title track “That’s That” that exceeds 10 million views three days after the release. The band is currently touring as an opening act for the live tour of P1harmony 2025.
Mackiah is proud of what they have achieved in those two years, but for him was the best thing that happened, meeting his colleague band members.
“I am so happy that I met these six great people and through our company I met so many great staff and also, of course, our fans,” said Mackiah. “So many great fans, so many great stories. That is really a big thing that has changed my life.”
For Brian, it has been unreal in recent years, but in a good way.
“After debuting it feels like I live in a dream,” said Brian. “Because I have to try new things every day, go to new places, eat new food, meet new people and just perform for many fans, which is also just super cool.”
The members of the band can also try new music genres, experiment with different sounds and styles. Some of their earlier songs are clearly cheerful with music videos that they portray as a soft face students. Their newest songs and music videos are absolutely Edgier. The lyrics are challenging, the fashion choices cool against culture, the dance movements seem stylish combative. “That is that” and “start -start”, both go away from the squeaky clean concept.
“This concept fits us best,” said Mackiah. “And because it suits us best, our recent comebacks are connected to this Edgier concept, and as you can see, our outfits, they have changed than the outfits that we have become in the past. It certainly fits us more, and our fans really love the music, so we are no more than the generally type music is a more self -confident of the Edgier -Teg.” ”” ”” ””
“It expresses our growth as a group and while we find our own color, we are also proud to share that and that we are old enough to be ourselves through our music,” said Kamden. “That is a bit inspired and what feeds our versions when we perform this music. Being confident as the album title suggests, loud and proud of who we are.”
The first members of the group were combed, Jiho and Brian, all of whom participated in the Mnet Reality Competition Show 2023 Boy planet. AMpers & One was preparing for their New Jersey concert on the same day as this interview, that also the Boys 2 planet Final, who gammed to look back at his Boys Planet experience. It was stressful but a positive experience.
“I knew Ji-Ho before because we have trained a lot in the same company,” said Kamden. ‘But I met Brian Boys Planet And I was most happy about that. I have to sit in a team with this man. Also competing with 99 participants, yes, that was quite stressful, but in terms of voice training it was one of the biggest improvements I made in my life. ”
“I agree,” Brian added. “Just spend a few months Boys Planet Was more useful than years of training. ”
Although the pressure was crazy, Jiho was very happy to meet other trainees with the same dream. “Everyone has their own situation and difficult times they are going through,” said Jiho. “But we can give each other positive energy.”
Brian and Kamden are occasionally tailored to see the last one Boys Planet Developments. “Sometimes when we had free time, we went to eat,” said Brian. ‘I would watch me and combed Boys Planet While we ate. “
“We laughed at the times we experienced,” said Kamden.
K-pop bands are known for their energetic versions and complicated choreography, but Ampers and someone’s dance skills really stand out. Their movements are crispy defined and synchronized. What is the secret?
“We spend 28 hours a day in the studio,” said Brian. “I’m just joking.”
It is just a slight exaggeration.
“If we try to make sure that we look synchronized, we will certainly slow it down and we will continue to move,” said Kamden. “Ensuring that every movement looks on each other and then also focuses on the feeling of every movement, the texture.”
Surprisingly, none of the band members studied dance before they became trainees. Jiho started dancing at the age of seven, but just for fun. Kyrell was part of a dance group in the church, but is insisting on it: “I was really, very bad.”
They all enjoy acting in their music videos, but so far there are no clear acting plans.
“Acting at the moment is not our biggest concern, but it is something that we certainly want to try in the future,” said Mackiah. “At the moment our focus is as the group of Ampers and one, the pursuit of our dream to become K-pop idols. Because we can act in our music videos and sometimes in our YouTube content, it is a very nice experience. Because we have these little fun experiences, I think it helps us to try it on a larger scale in the future.”
What they are now concentrating on is writing more texts and perhaps composing one day.
“Kamden and I are the rappers of Ampers and one and we first participated in each song on the latest album,” said Mackiah. “It was a great opportunity for our company to improve ourselves. It is definitely a way to express ourselves, how we feel, how we want to be seen. It certainly helps to improve our skills, because although we write the raps for specific songs, we go a lot through trial and error. It helps us to find our own style.”
“In the future we just want to keep making better texts,” said Kamden. “And even if we have the chance that we want to participate in putting together music together, because every member has worked on making music for our album.”
The current tour with P1harmony is unusual, because K-pop acts rarely has opening tires, but it works for these two groups.
“For us it is really a good opportunity to perform on a larger stage and for an audience that may not really know us yet,” said Kamden. “Usually, if it were our own show, it would mainly be our fans, but doing an opener gives us this opportunity to perform for fans who may not know us yet. We are really grateful to P1harmony for giving this opportunity. It also works well because we are under the same company, so logistics it is a lot easier and, a big group.”
This year’s tour includes versions in Fairfax, Virginia; Fort Worth, Texas; Duluth, Chicago, Los Angeles and Oakland. According to Mackiah, once you’ve seen Ampers and one in concert, it might be difficult to forget them.
“If you’ve never seen us, you might not think of ampers and one,” he said. “But if you have seen us at least once, you will not stop thinking of ampers and one.”
