Gaethje will now challenge Paddy Pimblett (23-3) for the interim lightweight title in the main event of UFC 324 on Jan. 24 in Las Vegas. Gaethje’s contract for UFC 324 guarantees him a certain purse, which is crucial for him.
“My contract says I get paid a certain amount of money to fight for a championship, now I get paid that for this fight,” Gaethje said told Carlos Contreras Legaspi. “That was really important to me. I’m the most consistent, most exciting guy to ever step into that. The last fight was the first time I’ve ever made less in my entire life than my last fight, and I don’t want that to happen. So I need to be in these big fights.”
