TORONTO, Ont. – Jupiterridden by Fraser Aebly, took his first stakes win thanks to a strong late surge in the seven-furlong $125,000 Display, for 2-year-olds, at Woodbine on Sunday.

Navy Street and Timeframe went straight to the front of the five-horse field, followed by 4-5 pick Jupiter, Speights Will and first-timer Baaeed Alynna, who was slow off a step, as Navy Street finished an opening quarter in a modest:24.53.

Navy Street, winning on his debut, led by a half length in:49.23, while Aebly, in third place with Jupiter, looked to overtake the free-running leader heading into the final corner.

As the field straightened, Navy Street began sprinting away from his pursuers and had a 2.5 length lead at the stretch call. Jupiter finally began to take the game lead soon after, as Baaeed Alynna found her best stride and came up with an energetic burst from the outside, to set up a thrilling final 50 meters to the finish.

Jupiter crossed the wire as the victor by half a length. Navy Street came in second, a nose ahead of Baaeed Alynna. Speights Will and (Jupiter stablemate) Timeframe rounded out the order of finish. Streetshavenoname and Lennox the Gray were scratched.

The final time was 1:24.83.

“With the few scratches we had in this race, we had to play it from the break and see what happened, and in the end we kind of had a trip on the rails, and we did that today,” Aebly said.

“When we got to the eighth pole and I actually put him down and asked him to finish, he did. He found that other equipment for me.”

Trained by Mark Casse and owned by DJ Stable LLC, Jupiter had a stellar debut at Woodbine on June 22nd.

The son of Upstart out of the Karakontie (JPN) mare Magnanimous, dismissed at 6-5, had a head advantage at the stretch call in the 5 ½ furlong main track first special weight race and then opened up to record a three-length score in 1:04.52.

The dark brown gelding, bred in Kentucky by David Schwartz, was second in the Victoria Stakes on July 12 and fifth in the Soaring Free Stakes on August 16.

Jupiter paid $3.80 for Sunday’s milestone victory.
