In his first season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Julius Randle finally started exorencing his demons after the season. Yes, he was a rather productive player at the Knicks who was named three All-Star teams, but he set up a number of horrible trips in his two play-off runs with the team. 31 years old on November 29, there was not enough talk about how important Randle is for the title loop of the Timberwolves in 2025-26.
The wolves were better with playing Randle and when he scored more
Can Randle ever become a Playoff artist? The 6-foot-9 power Forward answered that question with a thunderous yes last season, at least for the first two rounds.
His impact during playing was also seen in his first regular season with the Timberwolves. The team went 44-25 with him in the line-up. In the 13 games that Randle missed, Minnesota only went 5-8.
The more he put the ball in the hoop, the more successful the Timberwolves were. When Randle dropped at least 20 points in a match, Minnesota was 26-10. When he scored less than 20, they were just a little more than .500 on 18-15. It was a more pronounced difference in the play -off time. The wolves went 8-3 when Randle had at least 20 points and only 1-3 when he didn’t.
Randle must remain a reliable second option with attack
Of course Anthony Edwards becomes the leading scorer of the Timberwolves and the best player. In just 24 years old it is safe to assume that further improvements can be in his game in the coming years. The last 21 NBA champions have had a recent first team All-NBA player and after having made the second team the last two seasons, Edwards is ready to make that jump in 2025-26.
In the meantime, Randle is playing in his 12th season. He is at the age where a decrease in the game is not certainty, but would not be surprising.
Just like last season, Randle is the clear second option on attack. Rudy Gobert is who he is at the offensive end in what his 13th NBA season will be. Mike Conley will soon be 38 years old and cannot be counted to score in large numbers. Jaden McDaniels shows that he can be a reliable scorer, but he did not do this consistently.
With title ambitions, the Timberwolves cannot afford to make the further growth of Edwards compensated by a decrease in Randle’s game.
