It feels less and less like a question of whether Joshua Zirkzee will leave this summer, and more like a question of who will secure his signature.
While it has been suggested that end-of-season talks will determine his fate, the prevailing view is that the forward is more likely to leave than stay.
It is therefore expected that Manchester United will look for an experienced striker to replace him.
Should the Dutchman move on, he will have no shortage of admirers. A host of Serie A clubs, PSV and Fenerbahçe, are circling, while several Premier League clubs are also interested.
While much of that interest has already been reported, transfer guru Ben Jacobs has revealed another serious candidate joining the race for the 24-year-old.
Another suitor enters the Zirkzee race
Jacobs, in conversation United Statesaid:
“It is more likely that Joshua Zirkzee will leave Manchester United this summer as the club opens up to a sale.
“United will look to avoid losses, while there is interest from Serie A and Galatasaray have also recently shown interest.”
The transfer from Zirkzee United never worked out
It’s a shame that Zirkzee’s move to Old Trafford never really worked out.
A baller blessed with skill and quality, he has nevertheless struggled to deliver the end product by which strikers are judged.
Nine goals and four assists in 67 appearances is not enough, especially for a player United had high hopes for and in whom they invested £36.5 million.
Cashing in now, in the midst of a European transfer battle, and reinvesting in an experienced striker makes perfect sense.
Such a signing could give Benjamin Sesko real competition and get the best out of the Slovenian.
But until the summer commotion, Zirkzee’s destination remains a mystery, one that will only be solved when the window opens. For now, all eyes will be on how his transfer saga unfolds.
