Manchester United have a tough task ahead of Joshua Zirkzee’s future.
The Dutchman has yet to start one game this season, but with Benjamin Sesko injured, Ruben Amorim could finally call on him to play up top.
But as passed on by The People’s PersonThe head coach prefers a false nine system, which may mean the Dutchman has to wait longer.
AS Roma in pole position
Should opportunities continue to elude him, the Dutch international is expected to make the move in January as he looks to regain his place in the Dutch national team.
AS Roma remain in pole position and hope to reach a loan deal with an option to buy. But there are stumbling blocks, most notably agent commissions Corriere dello Sport.
That was a major reason why the ex-Bayern Munich player ended up at United last summer and not another Italian team.
And while the Giallorossi are considering only including a purchase option, INEOS will insist on an obligation. Alternatively, the Serie A giants are considering converting the option into an obligation, provided they qualify for the Champions League. Roma is currently in second place.
Agent costs are a stumbling block
“Zirkzee knows and appreciates Serie A. And the idea of working for Gasperini again certainly intrigues him. It is not just a matter of technique, but of prospects: he wants to play consistently, and above all he wants to come to the fore again in the second half of the season to fuel his World Cup dream.”
“That is why he initially gave a yes, a convinced openness to a transfer that would allow him to get back on track. The sticking point, as is increasingly happening in these transfers, are the agents’ commissions. These are high and can complicate the outcome of a deal that should be an opportunity for Roma and not create a problem.”
“Now the operation enters its most delicate phase: Roma must sit down with Manchester United to reach an agreement before they can even concentrate on the commissions. And this is where strategy comes into play. Massara knows it all too well: showing up and asking the English for a dry loan would be pointless.”
“The plan is to offer a loan with an option to buy, an option that will allow the club to test the player’s impact while keeping the door open for a permanent purchase.
A lot to think about to reach a January deal
“Manchester, however, will put up a wall. It is predictable, almost mandatory. The English do not want to lose control of the player’s contract and aim to include more binding conditions. And so Roma is preparing the second card: if necessary, they can agree to a loan with a purchase option, linked to qualification for the Champions League.”
United’s number 11 is keen to play in Italy again, and Roma are seriously planning to sign him. Now it’s up to the agents and clubs to find a way forward.
