Josh Sargent will not play a role in the clash between Norwich City and Southampton.
Sargent will follow concussion protocol, ruling him out of Saturday’s EFL Championship match, Canaries manager Philippe Clement confirmed Friday during his pre-match press conference. The American forward was substituted in the 44th minute of the 1-1 draw between Norwich City and Sheffield United on Tuesday after being involved in a collision in the first half.
Sargent’s absence is a significant one for the Canaries, given their worrying position in the table.
“Jos [Sargent] had a concussion, so we know the rules,” Clement said Friday. “He will be out of the game tomorrow. He felt bad after the match, but is starting to feel better. There are now clear rules, we have to take that into account.
“The brain is something very important and you cannot take any risks with it, so we will follow the rules as necessary,” he added.
Sargent, 25, leads Norwich City with seven goals in all competitions this season. Most recently, he found the back of the net on December 6, marking his first goal at club level since August 30.
Despite Sargent’s efforts, the Canaries have struggled for most of the season, parting ways with former manager Liam Manning in the autumn. Clement was hired in mid-November and has registered a 1-2-2 record since taking over.
Norwich City sit 23rd in the EFL Championship table and are five points adrift of safety after 20 games played.
