Morrissey, 30, led all defensemen in scoring with eight points and recorded three multi-point games as part of a four-game points streak.

After being held scoreless through the first few games of the season, Morrissey broke through on Thursday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. His slap shot from the point went off the post, bounced off goalkeeper Spencer Knight’s leg and into the net, making it 5-1 in an eventual 6-3 win for the Jets.
The Calgary native now has a goal and nine assists on the season, including seven during his recent surge. Through 11 games, Morrissey has added 18 shots on goal, 23 blocked shots and boasts a plus-11 rating, per NHL Stats.

β€œI was just trying to get a good, quick shot, and then I faded away, I think, like a Kobe shot,” Morrissey joked about his first goal of the season. “I didn’t see it. I just heard it. And then I heard the fans and it went in. So it was nice to get one.”

Morrissey and his partner Dylan DeMelo have started the season excellently. The duo has recorded 17 points so far, stepping up in key moments for an injury-riddled Jets lineup.

Morrissey was drafted 13th overall by Winnipeg in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and has long been a key part of the Jets’ blue line. He continues to prove why he is one of the most underrated defenders in the league.

Winnipeg is back in action on Saturday afternoon against the Pittsburgh penguins at 2pm CDT at Canada Life Centre. You can watch on TSN3.
