Star defenseman Josh Morrissey was absent from the skate, while Haydn Fleury filled in alongside Dylan DeMelo on the top pair. Although it was initially believed that Morrissey was taking a maintenance day, that was not the case.

Jets head coach Scott Arniel told the media after practice that the 30-year-old defenseman is considered day-to-day after being hit from behind by Wild forward Joel Eriksson Ek in last night’s game. Arniel spoke his frustration after the game for not calling the play, as well as Dylan DeMelo’s retaliation penalty shortly afterwards.

“That’s an absolutely terrible non-call by Josh Morrissey. Absolutely terrible. It should have been called head first into the boards. And then a scratchy call.”

“I don’t think I should put myself in that position, so I will take responsibility for my actions in that regard.”

Through 36 games this season, Morrissey has recorded six goals and 24 assists for 30 points, along with 12 penalty minutes and a plus-nine rating.

If the Jets’ best defenseman is unable to suit up against Edmonton, Fleury or Dylan Samberg would step into the top pairing alongside DeMelo. For now, Morrissey’s status remains one to monitor ahead of tomorrow’s match.
