Josh Hokit continues to make waves with his comments about Michelle Obama on the White House UFC card, and a five-promotional defending champion who held gold in the UFC declined to comment on the controversial heavyweight. On the night Cyborg retained her Bellator MMA featherweight crown against Cat Zingano at Bellator 300, Hokit actually made his professional MMA debut in the first fight of the evening.
The person promoting that card was Scott Coker, someone Cyborg has a lot of history with, and when she expressed her thoughts on Coker’s return to the MMA promotional game, Cyborg said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“I’m very happy. Scott Coker is back and announcing the new promotional event, because he is a real, legitimate martial artist. He really understands the fighters, because before he fights. He has a great history. He’s been doing this for 35 years and you see all the big promotion. He starts small and grows up, grows the event and opens the door for a lot of people.”
“This person has opened the door for me and I am very happy because the fighters actually need other events to do the work. To improve their games, everything has improved so I am happy that there will be another one.”
Josh Hokit draws the ire of many, but apparently not Cris Cyborg
Referring to the aforementioned components that linked Cris Cyborg and Josh Hokit, when asked if she had a response to Hokit’s inflammatory comments about the former First Lady, Cyborg said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“No, I don’t want to go into this.”
This is in a curious broader context, with Cyborg taking exception to similar claims made against her by Dana White years ago, where he quotes: “Wanderlei Silva in a dress”. It becomes especially curious when you consider that White himself disavowed Hokit’s comments about the former First Lady at the White House, while the former UFC featherweight champion did not.
