Australia’s chief selector Tony Dodemaide revealed that the Aussies were hopeful of Hazlewood’s readiness before the end of the tournament, but the bowler will now take even longer to recover from his injury. Meanwhile, the Australians are in no rush to appoint a replacement and will only do so if absolutely necessary during the final stages of the global event.
“We were hoping that Josh would be fit again by the Super Eights stage, but the latest indications are that he is still away for some time. Trying to accelerate his program will carry too much risk. We will not immediately name a replacement player. We believe we are well covered for the first matches, so we will make any subsequent decisions based on the priority at the time,” Dodemaide said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
David, Zampa, Ellis declared fit
Star players in positive developments Tim David and Nathan Ellis have been declared fit by Australian management ahead of the competition phase. On the other hand, veteran spinner Adam Zampa has also been declared available for Australia’s tournament opener in a Group B match against Ireland on February 11.
