Josh Emmett may not be the same fighter he was earlier in his UFC career, but he remains must-see television whenever he competes.
Emmett, who has lost four of his last five fights, is one of the most decorated knockout artists in the history of the UFC featherweight division. He has knocked out Michael Johnson, Ricardo Lamas and Bryce Mitchell during his career, which spans nine years in the UFC.
Emmett envisions at least one more UFC featherweight title shot before he calls it quits and hangs up the gloves. UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and top contender Diego Lopes will fight in a rematch at UFC 325 later this month, with the winner battling another of the top featherweights.
Emmett remains in the mix at 145 pounds and could potentially get back into the title conversation with a win in his upcoming fight. But Emmett will face another steep mountain upon his return to the cage.
Josh Emmett geared up for the latest UFC main event against one of the most dangerous featherweights
As announced by the UFC On Friday, Emmett will face unranked contender Kevin Vallejos (17-1-0) in the UFC Vegas 114 main event on March 14 at the Meta Apex. This will be Vallejos’ first UFC main event booking after an impressive start to his promotional run.
Vallejos knocked out Giga Chikadze with a spinning fist last month, continuing his meteoric rise up the featherweight rankings. The Contender series by Dana White alum has also defeated Seung Woo Choi and Danny Silva inside the Octagon.
The remainder of the UFC Vegas 114 card is expected to wrap up in the coming weeks. The event features a pivotal strawweight bout between Gillian Robertson and former UFC title challenger Amanda Lemos.
