The New Orleans Pelicans have some of the most passionate fans in the entire NBA, mainly because the city of New Orleans loves to support anything it can call its own. This is something Jordan Poole has already learned this offseason, just a week into the 2025-26 season. After practice on Monday, JP praised the fans for their show stand up and be loud while supporting their pelicans at Smoothie King Center.
“I loved it. Oh my God, I loved it… It feels so good to be in an environment where the fans are involved… The last three years, dead there. It was dead in Capitol One,” Poole said.
It’s nice to hear a fresh, exciting take on the Pelicans fanbase and the atmosphere in the arena, especially after what Brandon Ingram said at Raptors media day a little less than a month ago.
“The most impressive thing to me is that every seat in the arena is filled every game, regardless of win or lose. That certainly wasn’t there in New Orleans,” Ingram said.
Although BI later made it clear that he wasn’t throwing any shade at the Pelicans organization or their fans, it still rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Last season was a disaster for this team due to the injuries it suffered, but as a new season gets underway it’s nice to hear a new take from Poole on the atmosphere at home.
Poole continues to give fans more reasons to like him
Overall, JP is one of the most exciting players in the league; his ability to get into his own offense at any time creates consistent moments that fans simply eat up. He’s also proving to be a great leader for the team’s two lottery picks so far, Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears.
Now combine those two things with praising the fans and the atmosphere they bring to games, and it’s probably safe to say that JP is on the good side of most Pelicans fans. That’s crazy considering we haven’t gotten a classic game from Poole yet, but don’t worry, it’s coming.
With Zion Williamson questionable due to a left foot contusion, the Pelicans may be without their best player. If Z doesn’t play, they’ll be 27 points off their lineup, so someone needs to help pick up the slack besides wing Trey Murphy III. If JP can be that person and lead the Pelicans to victory tonight, I have no doubt he will become a true fan favorite.
