Atlantic City-once-stunned Bellator MMA prospect Jordan Newman improved to 8-0 in PFL Atlantic City and debuted for the Professional Fighters League. At least in name.
Technically, Newman fought last year on a Bellator Champions Series card, when the company was run by the PFL. Now Bellator is folded in the PFL itself, but the result for Newman was the same. Another victory, this time over Eslam Abdul BaseetWho could not go beyond the first round.
“I have fought a bit now, I am becoming increasingly confident with every victory that I get,” Newman told Media, including Cageside Press about the victory, which after the fight spoke in the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. “And just a number of good strikes such as that landing, making such a person like that is clearly a good trust booster.”
From here, Newman just wants to stay busy and he will keep an eye on the coming final of the middleweight World Tournament.
“I am looking forward to getting my next fight. We are going to see how things are going with, who is not in the tournament, and see how that kind of shakes. I think they fight at the end of the month. So that should give me a good understanding of who my next potential opponent would be.”
Regarding fighting in the Boardwalk Hall, one of the more famous arenas for combat sports in the US: “It is a legendary, historical location with a number of real historical, crazy fights that went here,” says Newman. “So it’s cool to definitely add.”
Jordan Newman also gave the honor to UFC, Bellator and a championship star Ben Asken to help him with his wrestling and top control over the years. As is now known, Askren was recently the recipient of a double lung transplant.
“Big shout at Ben Askren, that guy is my hero, that guy has done a lot for me. I wouldn’t be here without him. So props for him for sure. And as you know he is going through a number of health complications, so just pray for Ben, and I hope you all want the best for him too.”
