What’s next for Brooks Koepka after his surprising divorce from LIV Golf? Add fellow LIV member Jon Rahm to the list of professionals who aren’t quite sure yet.

Rahm, the two-time major champion, was this week’s guest Subpar podcast and discussed the Ryder Cup, the big 2026 season and of course the biggest news of the past month: Koepka’s split with LIV.

‘I had an idea [this might have been coming] but more through him than through the league itself,” Rahm said. ‘I don’t know what happened. I know he was dealing with some stuff off the golf course, I still don’t know what happened.”

LIV Golf released a statement from Koepka’s representatives that read in part: “Family has always guided Brooks’ decisions, and he feels this is the right time to spend more time at home. Brooks will remain a strong supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players continued success. Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf and will keep fans informed of what lies ahead.”

Koepka won five times during his four LIV seasons. He also won the 2023 PGA Championship – his fifth major title – becoming the first active LIV member to win a major.

“I wish him the best; I had great times with Brooks on the golf course,” Rahm said. “Obviously during the ’23 Masters (when they were in the final pairing) we were in that playoff in ’24 at Greenbrier, where we played in the Ryder Cup a few times. He’s always fun to play with, a fast, honest guy. I wish him nothing but the best. I obviously wish he stayed and I could continue to play with him, but hopefully we can compete for other events or majors in the future.”

Rahm was asked if he thought Koepka opting out of LIV a year before the end of his deal was a way for Koepka to serve a PGA Tour suspension before returning to the Tour a year later.

“I have no idea,” said Rahm, who added that he assumed Koepka would continue to play some DP World Tour events. “I don’t know how it works; does it get fixed right away? I don’t know.”

Koepka did not renew his PGA Tour membership beyond the 2022 season, so he would have to formally reapply to join while also likely serving an indefinite suspension.

‘Maybe he needs some time, but I think so [return to the PGA Tour]Rahm said. “He’ll probably finally play the minimum I would say, why not the events he likes, the big ones, then if he can get himself into higher events or get into higher events he would play those too.”
