Jon Rahm doesn’t have any details, but he’s happy that one of LIV Golf’s looming questions appears to be close to being answered.

Social media account @FlushingIt reported that the DP World Tour is working on a resolution with LIV Golf, under which it would stop fining LIV players for participating in conflicting events starting this year. Rahm, who told GOLF Subpar podcast he has collected approximately $3 million in fines over the past two seasons and is looking forward to resolution.

“Personally, I would say I don’t know much about it,” Rahm said this week at the LIV event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. “It’s clear that managers will take care of that initially. I don’t know what the negotiations look like. It’s clear that they are going to players individually to do different deals. I don’t know what it could be or what it will look like, but I’m happy to see a way forward for LIV players to be able to play on both tours and not be punished.”

Part of the DP World Tour’s reported offer is that players will still have to pay the outstanding fines they have accrued. Sports Illustrated reports this LIV collaborates with the DP World Tour to abolish or reduce current fines.

Rahm has said he will not pay his fines. Both he and Tyrrell Hatton are awaiting the outcome of an appeal they filed in 2024 to determine whether the fines are legal. Rahm and Hatton could play on the 2025 Ryder Cup team because the matter has not yet been settled. Rory McIlroy suggested that the two European top players should simply cut the check so that there is no doubt about the availability of the Ryder Cup.

“Look, this is my opinion,” McIlroy said at the Dubai Desert Classic. “We’ve been very tough on the Americans to get paid to play the Ryder Cup, and we also said we would pay to play in the Ryder Cups. There are two guys who can prove it. Great.”

The two-time Major champion believes that the reported solution, which sees the DP World Tour select a handful of events for players to participate in, is good for the health of both LIV and the DP World Tour, especially considering the number of young European players who have chosen to play on LIV.

“I think of the example of players like Tom [McKibbin] or David Puig, now a winner on the European Tour, who simply chose the best possible path as young players, should not be punished because of the politics of the game. The fact that they’re looking at a positive way to figure that out, I think it can only be a good thing for us, and I think it’s a good thing for the DP World Tour as well.”

At the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Puig and Patrick Reed both said they would pay any DP World Tour fine to maintain their status. Reed has since left LIV Golf and plans to return to the PGA Tour in August when he becomes eligible. LIV Golf has previously paid the fines, but will not do so again from this year.
