Jon Rahm knows that he and his colleague European Ryder Cup teammates arrive in Bethpage Black later this month. But he has a plan to overcome the massive crowds who will root against him.
Or, at least, the European team captain Luke Donald does that. On Monday, Rahm revealed his expectations for the long -awaited event and how the “Underdog” Europeans are preparing to make the Americans on Long Island upset.
What Rahm expects from fans of New York on 2025 Ryder Cup
Rahm was in the unusual position to need a pick from a captain to make the 2025 Ryder Cup team. But his official selection by Donald on Monday was little doubt.
Rahm is undoubtedly one of the best European golfers. The dual big champion would probably be easily qualified for the team if he didn’t play for Liv Golf.

He also has the experience to support it after he has played in three previous Ryder cups, including two wins and one loss. But the loss is the most instructive this year because it was the last Ryder Cup played on American soil, the event 2021 at Whistling Straits.
During the Pick -press conference of his Monday, Rahm spoke about how competing for the biased crowd at Whistling Straits would have to help him prepare for the guard of Bethpage Black later this month.
“I’m not going to lie and say that I have been perfect for dealing with my emotions with the crowds in the past,” Rahm began. “But I think the more I have experienced, not only in the Ryder Cup, but also in regular events, not only, the easier it gets, but the better I understand how to deal with things.”
He also said that the experience in whistling Straits taught him that the Ryder Cup resembles different team sports than regular pro -golf events.
“The last time at the whistling street, I think it is a team event knowing that I will have the home crowd against me, the feeling that it is what happens in every other sport, good, in Europe, the US and every country in the world when you play rivals and you will go to you in an away game,” said Rahm. “I think I just understand that I know that will happen and I know that I will hear many things that I don’t like.”

Rahm used the Champions League As an example, saying: “You think of a final of a Champions League, if someone could host it in their home country, there would be a very large inequality in the crowd.
He continued: “I try to base myself on that, knowing that, okay, starting 95 percent of the fans there wants me to lose and they will do their utmost to cheer against us and say things that we don’t like.”
A key, Rahm explained, is to start the environment and even try to use ‘painful’ comments of fans to your advantage.
“But at the same time there are some creative people who are fun and if you can use some of the funny things they say, although they can be hurtful, you can almost use that energy to help you,” Rahm said. “So I’m really looking forward to it. Plus, I’m going to say, the best people in New Yorkers are often fairly similar to character, and usually when I went to that part of the country, I have come very well with me and I did it very well in the northeast. So I look forward to it.”

Luke Donald’s strategy to overcome the fans of the US Ryder Cup
Rahm also offered some insight into how Captain Donald prepares his team for the hostile fans during this year’s Ryder Cup.
Donald’s strategy, as related by Rahm, is different for every player. As Rahm explained, some players actually play better when the crowds welcomed them.
‘[Donald] Has given us the tools we need, but we are all very different personalities, and some people in the sports world do it somehow better if they actually go into it with the crowd and when they turn on the crowd and they can feed it. Not other people, “said Rahm.

Yes, Jon Rahm was chosen for Ryder Cup. But what was that behind him on TV?

He also offered a few details about the ‘tools’ that the European leader uses to prepare his players.
“So it’s different for everyone, right?” Said Rahm. “He had been in contact with some of us for a while and he gave us many options and things to read and things we can practice. It is almost impossible in our daily events to be ready, because you never really feel that you have so many people because you have to try to make the most. It is something personal, right?
We will all find out how “hostile” turns out to be Ryder Cup this year when the first shots are hit on Friday 26 September in Bethpage Black.
