Jon Jones explains why both Tom Aspinall and Alex Pereira lost to him in the same way

Jon Jones believes he can break both Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall in the same way. Jones recently appeared in an interview with Geoffrey Woo and talked about how ‘Poatan’ shares almost all of his training videos on social media, allowing Jones to learn every facet of the Brazilian’s fighting game.

‘Bones’ believes that when it comes to wrestling and ground game, it would be the same for Aspinall and Pereira. However, according to the former champion, it will take him more effort to beat Aspinall than ‘Poatan’, given Aspinall’s size.

However, Jones accepts that both Pereira and Aspinall are quick on their feet. During the hearing he said:

“The biggest difference between Pereira and Aspinall is the level of footage I have. Pereira posts everything, entire sparring sessions. I have a whole kickboxing career to study from. I think my wrestling, strength and wisdom would be a lot for him. But that would be the same scenario for Tom Aspinall. I don’t think the British wrestling system and their jiu-jitsu programs are as good as people think they are. Tom is physically bigger, probably takes me a bit more effort.” If I knocked Tom down, it would be the same story as if I knocked Pereira down.”

Jones was offered $30 million to fight Aspianll and unify the titles, but he turned down the fight and opted to retire earlier this year. He later came out of retirement, is now in the testing pool and wants to fight on the UFC White House 2026 card. However, UFC CEO Dana White doesn’t like the idea.

Jon Jones reveals why he wants to fight Alex Pereira and not Tom Aspinall

Jon Jones has always been reluctant to fight Tom Aspinall, but has expressed interest in fighting Alex Pereira. ‘Poatan’ also called ‘Bones’ on several occasions.

During the interview posted above, Jones gave another reason why he wants to fight ‘Poatan’.

“It’s a question of legacy. What would make more sense? Do you fight the man who is impressive right now, who I don’t think anyone will care about in a few years? Or do you fight the man who the world will remember for a long time? In Brazil right now, Pereira is an absolute idol.”
