Joint military exercise AUSTRAHIND between India and Australia begins in Perth

The 4th edition of the India-Australia joint military exercise, AUSTRAHIND-2025, began at Irwin Barracks, Perth, Australia on Monday.

The exercise, to be held from October 13 to 26, aims to enhance interoperability, joint planning and execution capabilities between the two militaries in different operational environments.

According to the Indian Army, this year’s edition focuses on counter-terrorism operations in urban and semi-urban terrain, reflecting the evolving nature of modern conflicts. The exercise will also include scenarios inspired by United Nations peacekeeping operations, providing realistic simulations that require close coordination, adaptability and rapid decision-making in complex multinational environments.

As the exercise progresses, participating forces will undertake a series of tactical maneuvers, joint mission planning sessions and field training exercises to validate and refine operational synergy. These interactions are expected to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen professional ties between the two armed forces, the Indian Army added.

AUSTRAHIND-2025 reaffirms India and Australia’s shared commitment to regional peace, security and stability, while strengthening the growing defense partnership and strategic trust between the two nations, it added.
