John Terry makes a case for Harry Maguire after his imperious performance in the win against Man City – Man United News and Transfer News | The People’s Person

Chelsea legend John Terry has made a plea against Manchester United star Harry Maguire after his sensational performance in the 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Maguire shines against City

Maguire put in a strong performance alongside Lisandro Martinez as United took all three points in the 198th Manchester derby.

Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu both scored in the first half to give Michael Carrick a dream start as United’s interim boss. United created several scoring chances, but they were equally solid at the back, largely thanks to Maguire, who returned to the sideline after a spell on the sidelines.

He swept everything on the ground and in the air and managed to keep the dangerous Erling Haaland quiet. The England international almost got on the scoresheet early in the match, but his header attempt was thwarted by the crossbar.

After the final whistle, Carrick expressed his delight at Maguire’s contributions, while also admitting the defender’s selection was a calculated gamble.

Terry took to social media to hail Carrick’s masterclass and praise Maguire, calling for the defender to be recalled to the England squad for the World Cup.

Terry’s Maguire plea

The 45-year-old said [as quoted by the Metro]”Wow, what a performance from Man United. This is the Man United of the past. Attacking, free football, pace up front.”

“Great performance from Manchester United today under Michael Carrick. So good to see Carrick getting his chance.”

Terry said of Maguire: “Man United are such a better team with Harry Maguire in the squad today, playing again.”

“I’m not sure there’s a tougher game to get into. A Manchester derby playing against the best striker in the world [Erling] Haaland.”

“He’s just so good in both boxes and so good on the ball too. I saw him drive out with the ball and felt so comfortable with it.”

“In this form, Harry Maguire should be on a plane for the World Cup.”

Maguire and United are next in action on Sunday when they take on table leaders Arsenal in the Emirates.
