Joe Cole has talked about Newcastle United.
The former Liverpool and England winger discusses Saturday’s match.
Joe Cole on the chances of Eddie Howe’s side winning when they take on Manchester City.
The Newcastle United boss was due to face Pep Guardiola and his team at 5.30pm.
Both teams are desperate for the three points as they enter such a busy period of competition.
Joe Cole speaks for Newcastle United versus Manchester City in the Premier League:
“I’ve seen Newcastle in Europe three times [times] and they were brilliant on every occasion.
“Their Premier League wins have come on home turf, but they are 14th, which is not good enough.
“Manchester City were just brilliant, but I’m going for an entertaining 2-2 draw.
“Erling Haaland averages 4.2 shots per 90 minutes played, so if Haaland had 4 or more shots, that would be just average!”
My thoughts
Joe Cole is backing Erling Haaland to score at least four shots today and that’s no surprise as he points out the striker is already achieving that average and more.
Man City have won just one Premier League game away from home since the opening day of the season and Haaland is the only player to score in these last four away games, three goals in total.
Stop Haaland and you stop Man City? Well, you can’t help but think that it would go a long way towards a positive NUFC result if they can do that. The Norwegian scored the very first time he played against Newcastle in August 2022, but has yet to score a second against NUFC!
As for Newcastle United, as Joe Cole points out, our best form has been in the Champions League.
It was also a case of very different home and away fixtures across all competitions.
In their last five St James’ Park games, Newcastle have won all five, scoring eleven goals and conceding just one.
Six wins in a row on home turf would be a huge boost for United and if they can keep Haaland quiet…
