Buckley is a welterweight prospect who has made it clear that he is not a fan of all the wrestling in MMA. Perhaps that has something to do with his unanimous decision loss to former UFC titleholder Kamaru Usman in June. Buckley had no answer to the struggles of “The Nigerian Nightmare.”
Although Buckley has vowed to improve in that area, that won’t stop him from offering an insane challenge to a champion one weight class above him. He took his Instagram account to bet $50,000 if Chimaev stays on his feet for one round in his first title defense (via MMAfighting).
“Man, all that punching you’re doing out there just to shoot in the first five seconds of the fight is crazy work,” Buckley said. “So look, Khamzat, this is what I’m going to do for you: If you can stay on your feet for one round, just on your feet, and don’t use your wrestling, I’ll give you $50,000. Oh, you heard me right, $50,000. And in your country, rubles, what’s that about, 3 million? So you know that’s good money for all of you.”
Buckley even said he would throw Nassourdine Imavov $50,000 if he fought Chimaev next and accepted the challenge as well.
“And guess what, Nassourdine, if you can match that, that means it’s $100,000. So, Khamzat, take that money, or still show that you’re a punk by using that wrestling thing in the first five seconds.
“Actually, I’m at the ATMHt now, let me go ahead and get some money out. In fact, I have another fight to fight, but if I get one, I’ll keep going.
It’s not likely that Chimaev or Imavov will take on Buckley, but at least ‘New Mansa’ tried.
