The most improved mare that was currently in the nation Jilliby Ballerini (majestic son) gave a breathtaking representation of Front -Running when she reached Harness Racing’s prestigious group 3 $ 30,000 Western Sirsian Trotters Championship in Melton on Saturday evening.
The standing starting conditions turned out to be difficult for a number of runners in the event, but from the age of 10 meters Mark Jilliby Ballerini the field tangled around for driver Jason Lee to record the running.
Backmarker Arcee Phoenix had to work around the field from the age of 20 and eventually raced outside the leader. The previously unbeaten Derek de Jet secured one and one rear path.
On the back Lee left the brakes and Jilliby Ballerini Sprinted Helder with a third quarter of 27.7 seconds and then continued her lead even further by a last quarter of 26.7 seconds.
At the finish she had to save a little more than 20 meters about Pinnie who ended a brave second with Remus Phoenix in third place.
Jilliby Ballerini play again 4 October
Lee praised Jilliby Ballerini after the event.
“I thought we are humming from the back and when I started sliding her halfway the corner and went into the bend, she had gears.”
“I had a little more confidence that she would step, but when you are too confident with things that such things go. Just under racing conditions I thought I had to be a bit careful, but she was great. She got in a bit and put a funny one, but her in the winter. It’s done.
A delighted large group of owners pressed around Jason Lee to offer their congratulations after the event.
Nowadays, the Australasian Trotters Championship is a group 3 that has lost its group 1 status, but in the past it was the standard carrier for the best quality punishment event on the mainland when heat and a quality final were to be performed. It was won by some of the very best square legs and is still worth recognizing.
Arcee Phoenix did not lose any admirers after he was tiring to finish in the fourth, but he had a scorching run and he will be better suited due to mobile conditions.
