Jets treat fans to a 6-3 victory on Halloween Eve over Blackhawks

The Winnipeg Jets wanted to end their win-loss rhythm on Thursday evening at the Canada Life Center against the Chicago Blackhawksand that’s exactly what they did, skating away with a 6-3 victory on Halloween night.

Vladislav Namestnikov got the crowd going early, opening the scoring just 1:42 into the game on the power play. Gustav Nyquist drove into the zone, played a quick give-and-go with Nino Niederreiter and set up Namestnikov for Spencer Knight. The Russian attacker made no mistake and buried the score to make it 1-0.

Teammate chemistry +100 📈

The Blackhawks tied the score at 1-1 after a bizarre rebound. Connor Hellebuyck went behind the net to play a dump-in, but the puck took a strange leap off the glass and landed right in front of Teuvo Teravainen, who tapped it in.

now let me hear you say Teuvooooooooo🗣️

Winnipeg quickly regained the lead when Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi broke out on a 2-on-1. Scheifele slid a pass to Vilardi, who fired a shot past an outstretched Knight to make it 2-1.

Executed to PERFECTION 💯

Early in the second period, Scheifele continued his great October by scoring his ninth goal of the season, firing one through Knight’s five-hole to extend the lead.

Goal scorers touch each other 😏😏😏

The Jets continued to pile on in the middle frame. Dylan DeMelo found Vilardi in the slot, and the winger buried his second from the night blocker to make it 4-1. Winnipeg carried that cushion with three goals in the second intermission.

Josh Morrissey, who had been a consistent offensive presence all month, finally got his first of the season in the third. His slap shot from the blue line hit the post, bounced off Knight and found its way in to make it 5-1.

Weird that the NHL will love this one

Chicago pulled off a brief setback with goals from Alex Vlasic, his first of the year, and Andre Burakovsky, who cut the deficit to 5-3.

Vlasic on the rebound🙌

Kyle Connor, the only Jet on the top line without a goal at the time, capped the night by roofing a backhander past Knight to restore the three-goal lead and seal the 6-3 win.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 21 shots, while longtime Blackhawk Jonathan Toews notched an assist in his first game against his former team.

The Jets will wrap up their two-game homestand Saturday afternoon when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh penguins visit the Canada Life Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM on TSN3.
