Lowry, 32, has played in seven games so far after missing the start of the year while recovering from hip surgery he underwent in May. The St. Louis, MI product has recorded one goal and two assists for three points.
Lowry was drafted 67th overall in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft and has spent his entire career with the Jets. He has skated in 782 NHL games and posted 276 points (122G, 154A). By the end of this extension, he will be 38, typically the age at which many players retire.
The 6-foot-2 two-way power forward is currently in the final season of the five-year, $16.25 million deal he signed in April 2021.
This marks another major signing for Winnipeg, adding to a busy five-month period of putting away key pieces. The Jets signed hometown hero Jonathan Toews on July 1 (1x$2 million), Gustav Nyquist on July 2 (1x$3.25 million), Morgan Barron on July 14 (2x$1.85 million), Gabriel Vilardi on July 18 (6x$7.5 million), Dylan Samberg on July 30 (3x$5.75 million), Kyle Connor on October 8 (8x$12.5 million), and now their leader on and off the ice, Lowry.
Lowry was named the third captain in Jets 2.0 history in September 2023.
Internationally, he helped Canada capture silver at the 2022 World Championships, recording nine points (4G, 5A) and four PIMs in 10 matches.
With Lowry now locked up long-term, the organization’s attention shifts to 23-year-old forward Cole Perfetti, whose two-year, $6.5 million contract expires at the end of the season. He will be an RFA.
