Until the past year it is unclear in which direction the Utah Jazz went over the past three years. What has been clear is how often they have helped teams to pursue a title since blowing up. The Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers all have to thank Jazz for reaching where they are.
All four teams currently have quite high ambitions for this coming season, and the jazz played a role in why they believe in themselves as much as they do. With the 2025-26 season not too far away, let’s see how the Jazz has influenced the above-mentioned Playoff opportunities.
We start with the one who has benefited most clearly from whom the jazz gave them.
Minnesota has seen their most consistent success since 2022
For a reason, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been nicknamed “Minnesota Jazz”. Although their best player is Anthony Edwards, and it is not as if the team has not developed other talented players, such as Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid, it is quite clear that the Jazz played a role in why they have been as good as they have, especially in the past two seasons.
Although it initially looked as if it could have been a disaster, the Rudy Gobert trade is usually what Minnesota wanted. They have had one of the best defenses in the competition in the last two seasons, and Gobert is the rare edge that protects the copy that it is, has been the most important gear in this.
If that is not enough, after a shaky start, it was gaining Mike Conley that the ship stabiled for the Timberwolves. Oh, and they also got Jazz Alum Kickeil Alexander-Walker in the same deal, who sprouts in a valuable bank wall for them.
Add Joe Ingles (a respected experienced presence in the dressing room) and Johnny Juzang (an underrated pick -up), and it is difficult not to look at the Timberwolves and not to think that she was the jazz reincarnated. If there is one team that the jazz owes if they win a title the following year, it is the Timberwolves.
Although the Jazz has helped the Timberwolves the most, they still helped the others a lot.
The Jazz gave the Cavaliers their best player since LeBron James
The Cavaliers have not seen the same success with Mitchell that the Timberwolves have with Gobert, but A. They have not been too far away and B. That can just change this season. Moreover, C. Mitchell is their best player, while Gobert is at his best, the second best player in the Timberwolves, or at least the second most valuable.
Mitchell has only continued to rise with the Cavaliers, and although it has not translated into much play -off success, this does not mean that Cleveland made a mistake. Their problems have been more about whom they surrounded Mitchell. That unfortunately sounds a bit known for Utah.
Anyway, it is impossible to say where Cleveland would be if they never gained Mitchell to start with. When many thought it would take a while before they recover after LeBron had left them a second time in 2018, Mitchell gave them their biggest non-LeBron-Hoop in decades.
Oh hey, talking about LeBron …
Jazz helped the Lakers from gloomy situations (twice) from gloomy situations
To think that in an era in which LeBron itself should have given the Lakers all hope alone, they still needed the jazz to give them hope twice in the LeBron era. The first favor was to take the contract of Russell Westbrook, so that the Lakers could get a number of upgrades around the schedule, when it was the third team to help the Luka Doncic Trade facilitate the Luka Doncic Trade.
Admittedly, if it wasn’t the jazz, it would have been someone else, but the fact remains that they helped. Whether the Lakers want to admit it or not, the jazz has played a hand in how the Lakers have somewhat salvaged the LeBron era (although they ruined it a little before Utah became first and foremost).
In both cases it was clear that the Lakers were in situations that seemed untenable until the jazz came in to help. This is to hope that this will not hurt the Pick the Lakers to be owing them in two years.
The jazz helped the hair clipper to complete the edges of their rotation
Compared to the other three teams, the Jazz did not help the clippers that much, but they still helped enormously. That started with the Kris Dunn trade, where he looked like one of the best bargain contracts in the NBA since he went to LA.
They helped again when they actually helped the clippers from the PJ Tucker -Business and gave them a good backup (Drew Eanks). And of course we have to talk about the fact that Utah also practically gave John Collins clippers. Although they are not at the same level as the Thunder, the clippers all go out to go all the way, and the jazz helped them to do that.
Quite nice of the jazz Given the clippers, those who were responsible for ending the Mitchell-Gobert era …
