The Utah Jazz was not exactly too received on Ace Bailey. They saw him play alone in two Summer League matches, but he flashed his talent and his potential. Bailey is a prospect with a high ceiling with a low floor. Although his Summer League game was exciting in itself, a new stat was further evidence of why Jazz fans should be enthusiastic about what is to come.

Jeremia’s Angelman revealed that there is a stat called “adapted plus-min” that shows how effective a basketball player can be during college basketball. This also exists in the NBA, but not at the university until Engelmann discovered it. This is how Engelmann explains the stat, which he called ‘Rapm’.

“RAPM tries to determine the influence of a player by including points that are scored by the team of the player and the opponents, while (B) also takes into account the power of the player’s teammates, the power of the opponents and the state of the game,” Engelmann wrote.

There is a much more detailed explanation for what it is, but this is more about how it applies to Bailey. Engelmann called Bailey among the players whose effectiveness he believes will translate into the NBA (third in his design class and sixth general). He explained that despite the shortcomings of Rutgers last season, none of that was on Bailey himself.

“Bailey sees this method as a very positive player last season and blames his teammates,” Engelmann wrote. “The fact that Rutgers better defended eight points (per 100 assets) with Bailey on the floor should give Utah fans for optimism.”

Of course the question will be how impactful his smoking year will be. He will clearly have better teammates in Utah than at Rutgers, but will still not have the best supporting cast. That is possible to work as a player in general, but that could come up with skepticism that he is a man “good statistics, bad team”.

Yet this is exactly what jazz fans want to see. After last season was perhaps the most difficult to look at in the history of franchise, they need that hope that things will get back on the right track soon enough. Bailey will not let the jazz do alone, and certainly not in his Rookie year, but he could be that hope that the fans have wanted since 2022.

Hopefully the bar will not * be set high for Bailey

Bailey’s Summer League version, combined with such statistics, is really encouraging, but we should not forget that he is just a rookie. There will probably be growth pains, and even if his transition to the NBA is seamless, he will probably hit a Rookie wall at some point.

It is very exciting as a prospect, but the expectations must be kept in reasons. Fortunately, because the jazz refuel, fans must be ready for everything from the rated Rookie. Fans have seen Rookies who exceeded expectations, such as Kyle Filipowski, and others who underperformed, such as Cody Williams, so everything goes.

Statistics such as these point to the jazz that feels very good about choosing Bailey when it is all said and done. Whether that takes immediately or a few years, fans have every reason to be enthusiastic about what is to come.
