India defeated South Africa to win their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup title last Sunday. Indian opener Pratika Rawal was the second highest run-scorer for India Women at the World Cup before being ruled out of the World Cup ahead of the knockouts due to an ankle injury.

India played their last competitive match against Bangladesh, and recently Rawal, in an exclusive chat with CNN News18, revealed that ICC chairman Jay Shah had assured her that she would hand over her World Cup-winning medal.

“Jay Shah told us that he is asking the ICC if they can send a medal. So it will take some time for that medal to reach me. So one of the support staff gave me their medal to wear for now. Remember, I have my own medal. So the medal is on its way,” she said.

Indian player Pratika Rawal was replaced by star cricketer Shafali Varma in the Indian women’s team ahead of the semi-final against Australia. Shafali Varma played a very crucial hand for India, especially in the final. She top scored with the bat and also picked up two crucial wickets for India.

During the post-match ceremony, Shafali Verma, along with the other players of the women’s team, received the winners’ medal. However, Rawal did not get the medal as she was eliminated in the final stages.

“Jay Shah has texted our manager that I want to make arrangements to get a medal for Pratika,” Rawal said. “So finally I now have my own medal. The first time I opened it (medal given to her by support staff) and looked at it, I was almost in tears. I’m not someone who cries a lot, but that emotion was real, that feeling of participating.”
