Jasprit Bumrah may not occur in all India matches in the Asia Cup 2025, according to former RCB star Ab de Villiers.

The 31-year-old Fast Bowler, who has been struggling with injuries in recent years, is part of the 15-person team that has been announced for the tournament from September 9.

Bumrah played three of the five tests against England earlier this year, but was put aside during the Border-Gavaskar trophy after he had sustained an injury.

He spent a few months out of operation before he returned, and the BCCI has since been extra careful with his workload.

De Villiers supports workload management

About Bumrah’s return, the Villiers said that the team management handles him in the right way.

“It is good to see him in the team, because he is fit and ready to go. He will not play all games, and I read somewhere that he will compete in the important games. I love the fact that selectors are proactive. This is how your senior players manage,” he said.

He added: “Nowadays a lot of cricket is played and it takes a toll on the bodies of the players. You get the best from older boys as soon as you start to manage them. It’s good that they started with Jasprit Bumrah.”

Controversy about the absence of Bumrah

Bumrah’s injuries have often been a talk point in the Indian cricket. During the English series earlier this year, India won both games in which he did not stand up, but the series finally ended in a draw.

His absence of crucial competitions has expressed concern, and he is also expected to miss the next two-test series against the West Indies at home.

For now, the pace spearhead is likely to be used only in important Asia Cup luminaires, where management is determined to keep it fresh for the greater challenges that lie in front of us.
