Jannik Sinner claimed an impressive victory over rival Carlos Alcaraz to win the lucrative Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Sinner, replaced by Alcaraz as world number one after the US Open in September, exacted revenge for his defeat in the New York final with a 6-2 6-4 win.
With his win, the 24-year-old Italian reportedly earned $6 million (£4.5 million), including $4.5 million (£3.4 million) in prize money, in addition to a $1.5 million (£1.1 million) entry fee.
While the pair shared the four Grand Slam titles between them this season, Sinner was dominant from the start against Alcaraz, who said on Saturday his opponent was “just too good”.
Sinner broke Alcaraz’s serve in the opening game and wrapped up the first set quickly, with the Spaniard unable to gain a foothold against his opponent’s clinical serve.
He would win the exhibition event for the second year in a row after making the decisive breakthrough in the seventh game of the second set.
“I wish I could play like that everywhere,” Sinner said in his on-field interview.
“We have played a lot this season and I have also lost to Carlos a lot. It is a great pleasure and an honor to share the field with him.
“At the same time, as a player you want to get better and you need rivalry in the sport. So it’s nice to have a great rivalry and, more importantly, a great friendship off the field.”
“We have a very special friendship and it’s a lot of fun.”
