Jamal Lewis has finally found a new club.

The left-back was signed by Steve Bruce from Norwich for £15 million on a five-year contract in 2020, but made just 31 appearances for Newcastle United until becoming a free agent at the end of June 2025.

Now, four months later, Jamal Lewis has signed for Preston North End.

Their official announcement (see below) stating that it is an initial two-month deal.

Good luck to Jamal Lewis and hopefully this turns into a permanent deal at Preston, otherwise he will get a long-term contract elsewhere if he can impress over the next two months.

Preston North End official announcement about Jamal Lewis – October 31, 2025:

“Preston North End is delighted to announce the signing of Jamal Lewis on a short-term deal.

The left-sided defender has signed a contract with Deepdale that runs until December 30, 2025.

The Northern Ireland international arrives with plenty of experience, including promotion from the Championship with Norwich City and 39 caps for his country.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom said: “We have been hit by a few injuries which have left the squad looking a bit thin so we felt we needed more cover in the short term and I am really pleased that we have been able to bring in someone of Jamal’s calibre.

“He brings experience of playing at the highest level, having earned promotion in this division and having played international football since 2018.

“Most importantly, he has shown us that he is very excited about this opportunity and that he is willing to give everything as long as he is with us.”

Jamal’s career started at Norwich City, where he would really make his mark in the 2018/2019 season. He helped the Canaries achieve promotion to the Premier League and was also named in the EFL Team of the Season.

The defender then earned a move to Newcastle United, where he would make 36 appearances, with some of his time with the Magpies spent on loan at Watford and Brazilian giants São Paulo.

Jamal will now play as a PNE player for the next two months and will make his debut against Southampton this weekend.

Jamal said: “I’m very excited. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and I’m just ready to go, to be honest.

“I’ve spoken to the manager. It’s clear he knows about me and my running ability, what I can bring to any team I play for. I think the way the team plays has to suit me and I have to be able to work well with the team. I just want to be able to get as much knowledge and information and get everything moving as quickly as possible so I can just help where I can.”
