Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua: exciting chapter in Zany ’25

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua: exciting chapter in Zany ’25

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua is now an official fight for December 19th from Miami Cashier Center. The home court of the NBA’s Miami Heat serves as the backdrop for one of the final battles scheduled for 2025.

Monday’s official announcement of the fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua in South Beach ends marathon speculation about who Paul could fight next in the boxing ring. Paul reportedly fought Gervonta Davis in a practice appearance last weekend.

However, the exhibition was on November 3 confirmed it will be cancelled. Gervonta Davis was named in a civil suit filed by his ex-girlfriend, who accused him of false imprisonment, simple battery, aggravated battery and causing emotional distress.

MVP cancels Davis exhibition, leading to Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua

In announcing the cancellation of the exhibition match on November 3, Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions stated the following:

“Our team has been working closely with all parties to responsibly navigate this situation. While we will not be moving forward with this event, our plan still remains for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025.”

Shut up, he will. Six days before the Christmas holidays, boxing fans will get an early gift under their evergreen trees or an early lump of coal in their stockings, depending on their opinion of ‘The Problem Child’, in the form of Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua on Netflix.

Unlike the postponed fight against Gervonta Davis on November 14 in Miami, this bout will actually count towards both men’s professional records. According to the rules of the fight for December 19 at Kaseya Center, this match will be an eight-round fight of three minutes per round in the heavyweight division.

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua may work better for Paul on December 19th

While Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis was supposed to be an exhibition match last weekend before it was canceled, the now-cancelled fight was the target of scorn for fans of The Sweet Science. Had the Davis fight gone ahead, it would have happened under a number of stipulations, including a length of 10 rounds of three minutes each, a maximum allowed weight of 195 lbs prior to the fight, and a condition that both participants wear 12-oz gloves.

If Paul vs. Davis, the judges would have scored the fight and declared a winner even if it had been an exhibition. On December 19, both fighters will compete during the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua match wearing 10-oz gloves, which is what Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) normally wears in the ring.

So this fight could be the better move for “The Problem Child” compared to the canceled exhibition against Davis.

Sizing Anthony Joshua

Ahead of the December 19 bout against Paul, Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) is 4-1 in his last five trips to the squared circle, but by the time fight night rolls around it will have been about 15 months since his last fight. In September last year, Joshua failed in his bid to secure the IBF World Heavyweight Championship, suffering a fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) at Wembley Stadium.

Joshua undoubtedly suffered some ring rust during the fight with Jake Paul on December 19th. Moreover, Father Time is not on his side. Anthony Joshua is 36 years old, while Paul is eight years younger at 28.

Will free time and age contribute to Anthony Joshua’s downfall? Mark your calendars for December 19 and watch the fight to find out.

Research on “The Problem Child”, Jake Paul

Paul has won twelve of his thirteen professional bouts since his debut almost six years ago. “The Problem Child” has had an active run since early 2024, fighting four times in the past 17 months and winning all four fights.

Earlier this year, Jake Paul scored a unanimous decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KOs) at the Honda Center in Anaheim after 10 rounds of action. This young man, love him or hate him, has proven himself to be a dominant force in the squared circle on a nightly basis.

Will he end the year with a seventh straight win in his current streak? Only time will tell.

Paul is here to stay

Jake Paul, like any other martial artist, has his fans and his haters. While it’s undoubtedly fashionable to hate Jake Paul for who he is, you can’t deny that he’s making waves in his boxing career.

He’s put himself, at least on paper, in a better position than he would have been afforded in Gervonta Davis’ scrapped exhibition. Paul isn’t going anywhere, as much as some people would like him to just leave the scene and fade into obscurity.

Even though some may think his fight against Anthony Joshua will be the overnight death of boxing, chew on this: There were those who said the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight in 2017 would be the death knell of boxing, and they were wrong then too. While some people may think that Jake Paul is the ringmaster of the crazy circus known as boxing in the new twenties, whatever the opinion, he has been on a wild ride lately and this is the next stop.
