UFC heavyweight Jailton Almeida does not believe Alex Pereira’s potential move to the division will impact his title bid.
With nine wins in his ten UFC fights, it’s safe to assume Jailton Almeida is on the verge of a world title shot. This weekend he will look to secure that championship opportunity when he takes on Alexander Volkov in one of the biggest bouts of UFC 321.

Considering the main event will be the UFC Heavyweight Championship, it’s safe to assume the Almeida/Volkov winner will be on the sidelines to watch things unfold. Of course, a potential wildcard in all of this could be Alex Pereira, who has made it clear he wants to move up to heavyweight to fight Jon Jones in a superfight.
However, in a recent interview, Almeida made it clear that he doesn’t believe ‘Poatan’ will hamper his title ambitions too dramatically.
Almeida’s take on Pereira’s heavyweight switch
“I think the conversation about him and Jon Jones is great. A superfight between the two would be fantastic for them, for us as fans and for the UFC,” Almeida told MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter on Wednesday.
“But the division has been in so much turmoil in recent months that he needs to do something like a superfight. If he eventually wants to come to the division, fine, but I think he’s more looking forward to something as big as that superfight and not necessarily being part of the division.”
