Aston Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat in their Europa League match against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday evening.
While the result frustrated many, there was one sentiment among the Villans looking back on the match: “At least we saw a glimpse of the Jadon Sancho we thought we signed.”
And in his second start for Villa, Sancho certainly delivered.
Sancho vs Go Ahead Eagles
“The 25-year-old came into action against the Dutch team and brought about a positive change in the Europa League performance,” he claimed. Astonvillanews.co.uk.
“[Sancho] started on the left and impressed early on, creating one chance from his 32 passing attempts, with an accuracy of 91 percent.
“He also registered a shot and completed a dribble as he looked to influence the Villans’ performance from the start.
“It was strange to see him withdrawn, especially as Guessand struggled to offer much after scoring the opener.”
Having struggled to impress so far, this performance should mark a turning point in Sancho’s loan spell at Villa Park.
With Marcus Rashford thriving on loan at Barcelona and Rasmus Hojlund finding form at Napoli, Sancho’s lack of spark in claret and blue is a source of frustration.
United concerns
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey, via Sports Biblehas highlighted INEOS’ concerns over the winger’s situation.
“There is concern at United about Sancho’s situation,” Bailey revealed.
“It’s not that they were hoping a return to form would mean a return to Old Trafford – far from it – but the chances of making a return for a player who cost more than £70 million look slimmer than ever.
“In an ideal world, Sancho would have featured regularly and impressed, prompting United to make the decision to activate his option or sell him – possibly even in January.”
With these revelations coming to light just before Villa clashed with Go Ahead Eagles, Sancho’s action felt like a timely response.
Hopefully that show at De Adelaarshorst will lay the foundation for a real revival.
The 25-year-old is undoubtedly a gifted footballer; it’s just a shame he hasn’t found consistency in English football yet.
But maybe he can do that now, and finally justify why United thought he was worth £73m.
