Jack’s promise , who finally lives up to his name, exploded on the way to take on the $105,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint Stakes Gulfstream Park in the foreground, February 21.

At odds of 11-1, the 4-year-old son of Promises fulfilled battled for the early lead under jockey Rajiv Maragh. He broke into the lead, but soon dropped back to second Rolando who posted early fractions of :22.15 and :45.29. As they exited the turn and entered the stretch drive, Jack’s Promise left the rail to confront Rolando. He kicked clear and increased the margin, winning by three lengths at the wire, taking his second victory in a row.

“We always knew he had a lot of talent, but he just threw those clunkers in (and) we never understood why,” coach Dale Romans said. “But last year he won five races and he’s just started putting it all together. He’s the horse we thought he was before.”

Jack’s Promise completed the 6-furlong race in 1:10.47 on a fast track. He paid $24.80 for his minor upset at the Gulfstream Park Sprint.

Hall of Famer Bill Mott sent the favorite, 6-year-old Damon’s Hill who finished a fast-closing second after starting the race a step slow and trailing the field. Rolando was a further 3 lengths back in third after fading and held on With company . Jose D’Angelo’s Excited who was the second choice in betting, crashed into Damon’s Mound at the start and kept up the pace, but retired and finished last.

Out of the Malibu Moon mare Malibu treasure Jack’s Promise is a private breeding farm of owner Baron Thoroughbreds. He moves to six wins from 16 lifetime starts with earnings of $300,405 in his 4-year-old debut, taking victory on his first attempt in stakes company, and is now 3-for-4 on the main track at Gulfstream Park.

Jack’s Promise is from Promises Fulfilled, which was owned and trained by the same connections. He won the 2018 edition of the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2), which advanced them to the Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs. After he finished 15th in the Kentucky Derby, they reduced his distance. He then scored his top-level victory in the H. Allen Jerkens Stakes (G1). Saratoga Race Course.

Sire of the third crop, Promises Fulfilled, is listed for the 2026 season at WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., for $2,500.

“He’s Bob’s own breeder and our own father, so it’s all good stuff,” Roman said of Jack’s Promise. “Last time it was a big effort. He used two greats in a row. With him the sky is the limit. He has a lot of potential.”
