IU basketball senior forward Tucker DeVries was named to the preseason watch list for the Julius Erving Award on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 DeVries is one of 20 players on the preseason watch list for the award, which honors the nation’s best small forward each season.
Recent winners include Cooper Flagg, Dalton Knecht, Jalen Wilson, Wendell Moore Jr. and Corey Kispert.
DeVries scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in IU’s exhibition win against Baylor on Sunday afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Over 112 career games at Drake and West Virginia, he has career averages of 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.9 minutes per game.
DeVries is a 36.7 percent 3-point shooter with 276 makes from beyond the arc.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday announced the preseason watch list for the 2026 Julius Erving Award, including Indiana redshirt senior forward Tucker DeVries.
Named after the 1993 Hall of Famer and 17-year professional basketball player, the Julius Erving Award is celebrating its 12th year by recognizing the best small forwards in Division I men’s basketball. A national committee of top basketball personnel determined the watch list of twenty athletes.
DeVries, a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, has recorded 1,986 points, 626 rebounds, 283 assists and 139 steals in 112 games during his four-year career. He has career averages of 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
The two-time transfer has 101 career double-digit scoring games and has recorded at least 20 points in 41 games. He has won 75.0% (84-28) of the matches he has played in. In each of his three healthy seasons of college ball, DeVries scored at least 500 points and made at least 75 3-point field goals.
The Indiana Hoosiers open the season at 8:00 PM ET on Wednesday, November 5 against Alabama A&M at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting starting Friday, October 31. At the end of January, the watch list of twenty players for the 2026 Julius Erving Award will be reduced to ten, and at the end of February to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to the Erving and Hall of Fame selection committees, where the winners will be selected. The selection committee for the Julius Erving Award consists of top men’s basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2026 Erving Award will be announced at a date to be determined, along with the other four members of the Men’s Starting Five. Other awards presented include the Bob Cousy Award (Point Guard), Jerry West Award (Shooting Guard), Karl Malone Award (Power Forward) and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (center).
