ITTF has closed a productive site to Dakar, Senegal, which confirms excellent preparations for the table tennis match at the 2026 Olympic Games. The inspection led by Mohamed Eldawlatly, ITTF head of events, strengthened the confidence in what promises to be an excellent tournament.

The table tennis competition takes place from October 31 to November 5, 2026 in the Dakar Expo Center, placed just 10 minutes from the youth Olympic village. This proximity offers a considerable advantage for athletes, minimizing travel time and maximizing rest and preparation options.

With the short distance, athletes can return to the village between sessions and retain their regular routines – crucial factors for young competitors who experience their first major international tournament.

ITTF is fully committed to the success of the first Olympic event on the African continent and will offer extensive technical support for the Dakar 2026 Table Tennis Competition. A dedicated technical competitive team, consisting of an ITTF technical representative and competition manager of the professional staff of the Federation, will ensure the highest standards of event management.

This support goes beyond the competition activities, in which ITTF development activities play a crucial role in the athletes’s qualification process. This is particularly important for African players, many of whom continue through development programs that are currently taking place on the entire continent, including Talent identification events such as the current Africa Hopes Week & Challenge in Lagos.

The inspection team worked closely with the organizers to maximize the spoting capacity and to improve the athlete facilities. Plans are progressing to optimize the seat configurations and to ensure excellent viewing conditions and temporary education.

The flexibility of the location ensures reconfiguration between competitive phases, which tackles maximum participation in early rounds and at the same time creates intimate, arena-style environments for medailleds.

Special attention is paid to viewing experience, with plans to include Senegalese cultural elements in the competitive presentation. Many spectators will experience table tennis for the first time at a high level and create opportunities for innovative fan involvement.

The emphasis of the Youth Olympic Games on Education and Inspiration offers room for creative presentation that honors both local traditions and Olympic values.

African Development Milestone

Dakar 2026 also represents an important milestone for the development of the African table tennis. Young players on the continent now have the inspiring prospect to compete in an Olympic youth games on a home floor.

The growing development work of ITTF throughout Africa creates clear paths for emerging talents, with the current hope of the hope program that may continue to compete in Dakar. The timing fits perfectly with the strategy of the continental development of the federation.

The support of ITTF for Dakar 2026 includes the development of athlete, technical expertise and promoting tables growth in Africa and the global youth sports community. Since the continent has strengthened its table tennis infrastructure by the expansion of development programs, the timing is ideal for this orientation point.

Preparations will now focus on completing the improvements of location and operational procedures, so that the world’s best young table tennis players find a competition environment that finds their talents worth when they arrive in Dakar.
