Former Congress MP and brother of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, DK Suresh, on Wednesday played down speculation about his brother and chances of becoming the next Prime Minister.

Speaking to reporters, Suresh said, “If it is in his destiny, he will become the chief minister. If not, he will not be the chief minister. Why should we worry about it?”

Clarifying his earlier comments where he had expressed his desire to see Shivakumar as the chief minister, Suresh said it was only a ‘personal wish’. He added that “no lobbying or attempt was made” to seek Shivakumar’s elevation.

“He is the state Congress president and deputy chief minister. It is his duty to work hard and ensure that there is no black mark on the party. He is doing that job well and I believe he will continue to do so,” Suresh said.

The comments come amid ongoing rumors within Congress circles about leadership equations in Karnataka, with Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seen as the party’s two power centers in the state.

Meanwhile, days after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared in Mangaluru that he would remain Chief Minister for five years if the Congress high command decides to do so, AHINDA organizations have extended their support.

AHINDA groups have started a letter-writing campaign urging the Congress high command to allow Siddaramaiah to complete his full five-year term.
