Former EFL player Sam Parkin has said he struggles to see where Sheffield Wednesday will get results from.

The Owls are in the drop zone along with Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers. They are two points from safety behind Norwich City and Derby County.

Former Ipswich Town, Swindon Town and Luton Town man Parkin has said about Benjamin Bloom YouTube channel: “Well, it’s hard to make any kind of case (because they don’t stay at the bottom) unless things change drastically. It sounds like (and) I don’t think we’ve come to a conclusion (yet) but we’re getting to the stage where it’s probably going to be administrative. There’s talk of administration now, there’s talk of a points penalty. We might be able to get clarity on what the future actually holds for Sheffield Wednesday.”

“I know it’s awful, but over time I understand from reading the guys at The Star and BBC Sheffield that maybe it won’t all be so bleak and maybe in time they will get what they crave, which is a new owner. I can’t see where they are getting results at the moment. Middlesbrough were impressive on Friday.”

Sheffield Wednesday fight for survival

Sheffield Wednesday were defeated 2-1 at Charlton Athletic this weekend. SWFC pulled a goal back at The Valley through attacker Jamal Lowe, but ultimately failed to find an equalizer in London.

The Owls are back in action at home to Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening and are looking to bounce back. However, they will face a tough test against Boro at Hillsborough.

Their upcoming opponents sit 2nd in the league after their impressive 2-1 win over Ipswich Town last Friday. Rob Edwards was chosen as their replacement for Michael Carrick last summer and the former Watford and Luton Town player has since put in an impressive job at the Riverside Stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday turned to Henrik Pedersen as their head coach in late July. The Dane previously worked at the South Yorkshire outfit as part of their backroom staff under Danny Rohl before securing the full-time position.

What next for Sheffield Wednesday?

Sheffield Wednesday is crying out for new ownership. SWFC is still led by the controversial Dejphon Chansiri.

Pedersen is doing his best with the limited options at his disposal. There just isn’t enough quality and depth in their squad to compete with other teams, which is why they are seriously competing for points at the moment.

As Parkin said, administration may not be the worst thing in the world for the Owls. It would force Chansiri to sell.

Even if they are relegated to League One, they could start again and build a new team. They would have a better chance of winning games and they could rebuild some momentum as a football club after a difficult past few years under Chansiri.

Sheffield Wednesday will have to be at their best to achieve anything against Middlesbrough. Boro looked strong against Ipswich Town and will be in a confident mood as they look to close the gap on Coventry City.
