Too many Australians go without, with about one in 10 people who run homelessness, but the real estate sector is coming up to tackle homelessness.

Place Makelaars Chief Executive Damian Hackett is the latest real estate leader who increases awareness about the reality of homelessness and collects vital funds for organizations that help people experience homelessness.

“Homelessness is not always visible,” said Mr. Hackett.

“It may mean that you go from bank to bank, live out of a car or trust temporary arrangements.

“We feel a strong obligation to play our role in creating solutions and supporting people without a safe place to call home.”

Homelessness in Australia usually remains invisible; What we see on the street was just a piece of the problem.

The heads were grim: on a certain night there were more than 122,000 Australians without safe housing, but rough sleep was only 6% of those who experienced homelessness.

Most were banking, living in cars or moved by temporary accommodation. This pressure has also been felt in Brisbane, where there is room.

“Brisbane is a city that is built on community, but we know that people here are making a hard time,” said Mr. Hackett.

“You don’t have to go far to see families under pressure with rising rents and livelihood. If we take the community seriously, we must be part of the solution here in Brisbane.”

That conviction is the reason why space has registered with theA house for everyone Foundation, a national effort that brings the real estate sector to use its scale, influence and networks to increase consciousness, mobilize funds and to go back long -term change.

His first campaign,A night without homeruns until October and invites individuals and teams to refrain from the comfort of home for one night.

It will reflect on the hidden reality of homelessness and fundraising for renowned frontline in love with the foundation-led advisory committee of the foundation.

The Place team takes part by staying at the head office in October.

“It is a small sacrifice compared to what many Australians have in mind every night, but it is an opportunity for us to come together, recruit consciousness, to raise money and make a difference,” said Mr. Hackett.

“As CEO I talk a lot about our values, especially community. For me this is a chance to work it out in a meaningful way. I was lucky to build a career around houses and security, so it is important for our company and for me personally, to perform.”

The Place team has gave something back to the community for this new initiative in its own way.

In the network, agents and offices were embedded in the neighborhoods they served, schools, local clubs and organizations of Grassroots support and give time through mentoring, local initiatives and volunteering.

That daily closeness announced how place the fuller story of homelessness understood outside the street and how it wanted to react.

“When we acknowledge that most people experiencing homelessness are hidden, we broaden the conversation and who we think this influences this,” said Mr. Hackett.

“It is not just a matter of city center, it is in the suburbs and regions.”

It comes as increasing costs of living, tight rental markets and economic uncertainty that more Australians run into the risk of losing the stability of a house.

As an industry, Mr Hackett believed that professionals were in real estate well placed to help – practically and convincing.

“Our company is aimed at real estate and people’s houses … That means that we are in a strong position to make a difference,” he said.

“Going to participate, is about the use of our voice and the influence of our industry to ensure that every Australian has a safe place to call home.”
