‘It was ten out of ten’: Ponga’s perfect night leads Newcastle to victory

2 minutes, 25 seconds Read

Kalyn Ponga turned the ultimate master class to inspire unbeaten Newcastle into an emphatic 26-12 home victory on a sloppy dolphin outfit.

The Talisman of the Knights was brilliant left, sensational on the right and on fire in the back. He was everywhere in one of his most influential displays.

Newcastle will be confronted with a nervous waiting for second-rower Kai Pearce-Paul, who was sin and reported in the 69th minute in the 69th minute for a shoulder at the head of Dolphins Prop Daniel Saifiti.

The dolphins, which flew to Newcastle on Monday evening after ex-tropical cyclone Alfred has flooded their Redcliffe training field, will be happy to return to the normality after two losses to start the season.

The Knights signed Parramatta game maker Dylan Brown on a 10-year Mega deal from 2026 during the week. Brown would like to have wanted the front lamp of his next move and the prospect of playing next to Ponga.

Ponga often played on the first receiver to get a hand in all his side four first half attempts.

Start no. 7 Jack Cogger was also solid to show how he was not discouraged by the brown signing.

Ponga de Maestro was the Linkman for the opening to walk James Schiller, with a overhead pass by Pearce-Paul de Clincher.

The knight skill sent Schiller for his second and fired when the last pass for Center Bradman is the best to crash to give the Razzle-Dazzle Knights a 14-0 lead after 21 minutes.

Ponga then turned on a movement that Knights -legend Andrew Johns said in Channel Nine Commentary “only a few players in the world” could have shouted.

He moved to the outside of Dolphins Center Jake Averillo, while a pass from Cogger was in the air and sent Dane Gagai in to bring the score on 20-0.

“I am so happy that I was here to see that,” said Johns about Ponga’s genius.

The beautiful vessel of Dolphins Half Isaiya Katoa gave Prop Mark Nicholls the only points of the first half of the visitors.

Queensland -Coach Billy Slater also licked his lips over the Ponga Display.

“It was 10 out of 10 for Kalyn in that first half for me,” said Slater during the break.

The likely halves partner of Brown next year, exciting no. 6 Fletcher Sharpe, cut to set up in the second rowing Dylan Lucas after the break.

The Saifiti twins, who played against each other for the first time in their lives, locked the horns with the first hit of the game. Daniel ran directly in the opposite Prop Jacob. It was a time to enjoy.

Jacob led a dominant knight’s package with VIM before suffering a cork on the quad.

The dolphins played stupid footy and gave three penalties for incorrect play-the balls.

Katoa, who scored with a late show-and-go, was the radiant light for the dolphins.
