Atletico Madrid midfielder Vilde Boe Risa has revealed her remaining emotional attachment to Manchester United as she prepares to face her former side on Thursday.

Boe Risa’s time at United

Boe Risa signed for United in July 2021, joining the club from Swedish side Sandviken. Her contract ran until the end of 2022/2023, with an option to extend for a further twelve months.

She played 44 games for United in all competitions. The Norwegian found the back of the net eight times in that period.

Boe Risa helped United qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the 2022/2023 season. She produced an assist for Lucia Garcia’s winner against Manchester City, sealing European qualification.

She also played a key role as the Reds finished second in the Women’s Super League during her final season at the club.

Now in her third season with Atletico Madrid, Boe Risa is set to face United in the Champions League.

Ahead of the tie, she admitted she still has a lot of love for United, although she still wants to win the match.

Boe Risa opens United’s reunion

The 30-year-old said this at a press conference [as quoted by club media]”It’s a big match. I feel like I know the girls and the club inside and out, and of course I still watch them and follow them very closely. I feel like it’s still my team, even though it’s definitely Atletico de Madrid. I’m excited.”

“I feel like I’m going to be playing against my friends and people who I miss playing with so much. It’s a special match for me and I was so happy to see that we were going to play against them in the Champions League.”

“I want to go out there and apply pressure, be aggressive and show that we’re just not there to make you play.”

“That’s also the message we have to send to the fans. I think they deserve to see more than what they saw on Sunday.” [in a 0-6 defeat to Spanish league rivals Barcelona]. We shouldn’t just let them play and give everything.”

Boe Risa continued: “I think overall my time at United was a really good time. Mainly because of the team we had and the girls within the team. It was just a really nice environment to be in. For me it was a big step forward in terms of professionalism. Just the fact that I’m part of a club like Manchester United is obviously huge.”

“I look back on it as a proud moment in my career and I learned so much there. I had a great time and obviously miss it, but Spanish football is something that suits me well.”

“I feel like I can fulfill my potential here and I had a great time here too.”

Atletico vs. United kick off at 5.45pm.
