It has been a good season for Isle of Wight Table Tennis and there was a lot of enthusiasm on Friday evening (26 September) in Ryde Castle Hotel for the annual presentation evening of the association, when 96 trophies / prizes were awarded after the Buffet Supper to 60 of the island players.
One of the remarkable successes were:
- Ryan Cates and Elaine Mills – Respective men’s and ladies singles winners
- Paul Rainford and Ryan Cates – Winners for Herendenubbels
- Anna Joyce and Nicky Dando – Winners for Ladies Dubbels
- Anna Joyce and Ryan Cates – Winners of Mixed Doubles
- Ryan Cates – Juniors Tournament – winner
- JYE LOCK – CADETS TOURNAME -WINNER
Three players in particular – Alex Rorke, Paul Rainford and Ryan Cates – had excellent seasons, with each player won five trophies.
It was the 19-year-old Ryan who had the most striking successes, the winter team of the Winter League, the men Singles and Doubles and the mixed Doubles, as well as the Juniors Tournament. This was a remarkable achievement by the best young player on the island.
Ryan had an excellent season and he received a special price from a table tennis shirt and shorts with logo, which was presented by Danny Burns. It was Danny who was the last player who won both the men’s and Juniors Singles tournament in the same season (1996).
The island players are now looking forward to a new season with the Winter League that starts next week.
