Islamic solidarity games begin in Riyadh with table tennis among 23 sports – International Table Tennis Federation

The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games officially opened today, Friday, November 7, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with competitions set to run until November 21, 2025. The multi-sport event brings together more than 3,000 athletes from 57 Islamic countries competing in 23 sports at world-class venues in the Saudi capital.

ITTF President Petra Sörling attended the opening ceremony and highlighted the continued presence of table tennis at the Games since its debut at the inaugural edition in Mecca in 2005.

Hosting Saudi Arabia marks exactly 20 years since that first edition, where athletes from across the Islamic world came together in unity. The kingdom’s return as host underlines its leading role in promoting solidarity among Islamic countries through sport.

Table tennis was a regular feature of all five previous editions of the Islamic Solidarity Games. The sport has seen strong competition from the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Turkey and the Arab Republic of Egypt – the leading medal winners in the history of the Games.
